If You Can’t Ride…

This would be a pretty good alternative to riding a motorcycle I think… these are Swiss Air Force aircraft practicing maneuvers in the Alps. Love the song by Evanescence too!

Andy McKee

I’ve never seen anyone play the guitar this way, fascinating and fantastic! I think I’m going to have to buy his CD, available online here.

This may be the coolest commercial I have ever seen.  High resolution version is available here and you might be interested in the “behind the scenes” documentary.

This Could Work

Hmmm, this could make dating so much easier! Now… where do I find a lawyer that specializes in this kind of negotiation?!

Dexter

Did anyone else see the premier of the new Showtime series “Dexter” last night?  I think I’m going to like this one. The premise is that Dexter works in forensics for the Miami PD as a blood splatter analyst.  And he’s good at his job, really good.  He’s also got a half-sister on the force currently working in vice. But that’s not the interesting part, the interesting part is that Dexter is… a serial killer.

Dexter is a shell of a human being.  He says he doesn’t feel emotions. He “acts” his way through life, going through the expected motions but not really experiencing them. His foster father, a former cop, discovered his predilection for violence when he was young and helped him harness and control it.  He still kills, but the catch is that he only stalks and murders *other* murders that the police have been unable to catch. And he’s gotten away with it for a long time.

In the premier though, another serial killer is butchering prostitutes in a very unique way. And apparently he or she knows about Dexter and is taunting him.  That storyline appears to be an ongoing arch that isn’t resolved in the first episode. Can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

It’s a strange show, but I really liked the premier… ;-)

BBQ

Today’s scavenger hunt photo got me to thinking about my time stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB. The thing I miss the most?  NC-style BBQ! Just outside of Goldsboro, NC is a restaurant called Wilbur’s.  They served the best pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever had.  The BBQ you get in NC isn’t like BBQ I’ve had anywhere else.  It uses a vinegar-based marinade instead of the red sauce most people associate with BBQ. It’s an acquired taste, but if you wind up hooked on it nothing else compares.

And that got me to think further… is there any way a fellow in Seattle, WA can get his hands on NC-style BBQ?  Turns out the answer is a resounding YES!  There’s a famous BBQ place in Kinston, NC called Kings BBQ that will ship it anywhere in the country via FedEx! So, when I get back from my road trip next week, I’m ordering up a batch!

Duckie speaks…

Entertainment Weekly has an interview with Jon Cryer about his role in Pretty in Pink and the upcoming 20th annivery special edition release. Yes, I will no doubt buy it even though I have a copy of the movie on my shelf already. I love 80’s teen movies. You could almost say it’s something of an obsession. I try not to think about it too hard.
