I’ve been out of the loop on movie reviews in recent weeks but am easing back in this week. I caught a screening of Evan Almighty last night and *loved* it. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard through a movie. I just tagged along with some of our other staffers so I’m not on the hook for the review, but mine would be positive.
I loved Steve Carell in the title role, his physical comedy is hilarious. I also loved Wanda Sykes as his assistant, I always find her sarcastic style of humor entertaining. Morgan Freeman is back in the role of God of course, and I have to say I really enjoy him in this role. I think you’ll really find the animals as entertaining as the humans in this film. All of the scenes involving them are amazing. Over 100 different species were used in filming.
My only real complaint, and it’s very minor, is that the environmental message embodied in the film is a little heavy-handed at times. Not that I really minded!
Tonight I’m off to see a film that I do have to review, Eagle vs Shark. This independent film from New Zealand is a romantic comedy about a shy, fast-food cashier and an eccentric geek from a video game store. And that’s about all I know. Could be interesting or… not.

The previews for Evan Almighty do look good. Now with your review I may have to go see it.

I’ve been wondering about this one…the previews look funny, but I hate when I get to the theater and the previews were the best part…now with your review, I may have to check this one out when it comes out on DVD…I only do the theater once a year and I’ve used that one up..LOL

Oh I’m glad you liked it, I always like to hear other people’s reviews before I go. I’m never the first to go! I was only twitchy because I don’t like Bible stories shoved down my throat, but I did love Morgan Freeman as God in the first one…this looks like a winner.

We’re really looking forward to this one. He makes us laugh so hard!
We saw “Ratatouille” today… and I’m happy to report it’s one of the best animated features in years. So much so that it just feels likea a movie, not specifically an animated one.
