Feeling Pretty Good

I’m feeling both better, and worse today than I have the past few weeks.  I’m actually feeling more pain, but I don’t feel sick and tired like I have been.  That’s a huge improvement for me.

Obviously some of the pain is just soreness from the surgery. I had a slight misunderstanding about exactly how the surgery would work.  I knew they used a fiber-optic “snake” to see what’s going on and that they’d run a laser through that same cable.  I knew they’d go through the bladder and then into the ureter to find the stone and “zap” it.  I thought they’d make an incision and go in that way. I was wrong about that. Yeah, they run all that gear through an existing opening into the bladder. Yeah, that one. So that accounts for some of the tenderness.

The rest of the pain is weird stuff. When I woke up in recovery last night, both of my calves were completely cramped up. It was a while before I could move my legs, let alone stand up or walk. They’re still really sore and stiff today.  My shoulder, neck and stomach muscles are really sore today too. And my throat is really sore, but that’s from being intubated during surgery.

Still, I’m still feeling 100% better by comparison and I’m really happy.  I even managed to have lunch with a couple of friends today. I’ve got a follow-up appointment on Friday and I’m hoping that I feel good enough this weekend that I’ll get at least a short day ride in on the motorcycle.

    Oh.My.Gawd. I think I just passed out.

What is utterly mind-blowing to me is that they intubate you for surgery in the middle of the afternoon & release you that nite. Man, that’s some wild stuff there!

I’m so glad you are doing better. It must feel good to feel “alive” again!

YIKES! I just crossed my legs reading this…I can ‘almost’ feel your pain, though not quite I’m sure. I’m a little worried about the leg cramps though..did you call your Dr? Is this normal? What about blood clots after surgery?? Please call and ask…when I have had any abdominal area surgery I had to be hooked up to what I always called “leg machines” that massage your legs for you after surgery to make sure you don’t develop clots, so that raised a huge red flag for me. It’s probably nothing, but better safe than sorry…it doesn’t seem like you should have leg cramps..
    Crossing fingers for you now..

Whew, sorry to hear you had to go thru that! Take it easy and don’t rush things. You will heal fast enough. If you push it, it could take you longer to recover. I’ve seen it in a friend.

    So, take care, Betty :)

Just checking in to see how you are. I recall you thinking there would be an incision. What you described is something my brother has had. If it helps … that procedure is way easier to recover from vs an incision and the discomfort is way more tolerable than a moving stone (but I bet you know that by now)

I am just glad for you it is over … you will be on that bike soon! Take care and don’t rush it.
