Lucky You

I attended a screening of the new Eric Bana/Drew Berrymore film “Lucky You” tonight. It’s a sort of love story set against a background of competitive poker in Las Vegas.  Interesting combination. There were things I liked about it, and I enjoyed it, but honestly it’s a little too long and drags in spots.

The most interesting thing to me about it was Eric Bana’s character Huck. His father tells him at one point that his life is topsy-turvy. That he takes risks at the poker table when he should be conservative and plays it safe in his personal life when he should take risks. I can relate.

In reality I’m a real wall flower. I play it safe in my career, in finances, in relationships. It’s only in the safe anonymity of my helmet, behind my dark face shield that I let things hang out. I’ve blogged before that the person I am inside doesn’t match who I am outside.  I think I’m fated to go through life that way, as I really don’t know how to reconcile the multiple facets of my personality.

Has anyone else dealt with this and figured it out?  I’d sure like to find the answer…

If I know, what I know, then no one will watch over you
So someone shouldn’t really tell me what I want to know
I know, I owe, and I know that matters don’t matter as much
As you think they do
You will only be yourself
When you can never be yourself
And you will only be yourself
When you understand what you know
How long, will we go on with a modern way of letting go,
Tell me how long will we go on with the modern way of letting you go?
If I know, what I know, losing isn’t learning to be lost
It’s learning to know when you’re lost
If I know, what I know,
I’ll want to make the most of what it seems like
You will only be yourself
You can never be yourself
And you will only be yourself
When you understand what you know
How long, will we go on with a modern way of letting you go,
Tell me how long will we go on with the modern way of letting you go?

I am definitely just a one-sided person.. LOL. Safe, calculated, non-risk-taking… BORING! LOL

as I really don’t know how to reconcile the multiple facets of my personality.

I can SO relate to that! I’m the same way…very conflicted. On the outside, I’m very conservative, don’t take crazy chances, always play it safe, smiling, etc. On the inside, I’m the opposite…more brooding, chance taking, say what I want when I want, wild kind of person.

Hey, tell me…were you born on a cusp? They say, if you were born on a cusp, you can have traits of BOTH signs (for me it’s the cusp of Sagittarius/Capricorn.

    I too feel this way.
Hard to explain… but I understand the whole feeling.

I have to agree with stacy. I was born on a Cusp too. Taurus/Gemini. Traits of both…
Can’t really figure out who I am or who I should be…

Hmmm, nope… not born on a cusp. Dec 31 which is solidly Capricorn I’m afraid! Good theory though. Glad to see I’m in good company at least!

You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when youre sittin at the table.
Therell be time enough for countin when the dealins done.

Now evry gambler knows that the secret to survivin
Is knowin what to throw away and knowing what to keep.
cause evry hands a winner and evry hands a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.

I think of us all as wearing different masks in different situations… that allow us to be flexible and more dynamically sociable. If every person I know… knew the way I think, I’d be more limited for social experiences. I tend to weight my goals… and do my best to make the outside and inside match these goals. Because I’m driven. (see my post today). lol

Hello fellow Capricorn. My husband and I both are Capricorns. I used to be a one-sided person. When I first took up rock-climbing, it brought out a whole new, exploring person. When you’re out on that rock, you, the sky, the ground way below, you find a whole new you, lol.

Motorcycling has put me in many different environments that I have never experienced before. I have made so many new friends and getting out on the roads exploring is fun. I used to stay home quilt, read and not get out. I am still that wall flower, but now that wall flower blooms occasionally and it’s fun.

And then there’s snow skiing. Even more new friends. Moving to Colorado has been good for us and I have changed and get out more because of it.
