2006 In Review

I feel a meme coming on… stolen from Sandra

What did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before? Hmm, lots of things… if I had to narrow it down? Well, I guess I’ll go with my first motorcycle trip down to California.

Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions and will you make more for next year? I didn’t actually have any resolutions, I don’t normally bother. I did make a couple this year though!

Did anyone close to you give birth? No way, I may wander around oblivious to what’s around me most of the time but if someone within a few yards had given birth, I’m sure I would have noticed!

Did anyone close to you die? No, not this year thankfully but it was a close call at one point.

Did you go anywhere special? Besides the previously mentioned California trip, I had a great motorcycle trip to Baker City, Oregon and the kids and I camped our way around Mt. Rainier and Mt. Saint Helens.  All of those trips were pretty special.

What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? A Kawasaki KLR-650 dual-sport motorcycle… *sigh*

What was your biggest achievement of the year? I did a motorcycle track day this year, that was a pretty big thing for me.  I was *very* nervous.  I basically spent a day riding my motorcycle around a racetrack while being instructed by experiencing race coaches. I wound up having a blast!

Did you suffer illness or injury? Well, I didn’t suffer any *new* injuries but I was still recovering my my motorcycle accident that happened late in 2005 for the first few months of this year.

What was the best thing you bought? Probably the thing I’ve gotten the most enjoyment from was my Olympus E-500 digital camera… I love that thing!

Where did most of your money go? Shoot that’s no secret, I spent it!

What did you get really, really, really excited about? I was pretty happy my son didn’t die, that option was on the table but fortunately the dice came up in our favor.

What song reminds you of 2006?

Compared to this time last year are you:
a. Happier or sadder? Happier, without doubt
b. Thinner or fatter? I think I maintained the overweight status quo, no better, no worse
c. Richer or poorer? I wouldn’t call it rich exactly but I’m better off financially

What do you wish you’d done more of? Road trips! There are never enough opportunities to ride to a new destination.

What do you wish you’d done less of? I played way too much World of Warcraft… no really, I did… errr… am. Still.

Did you fall in love in 2006? I fell hard for Pizza Hut’s Lasagna pizza but alas, it didn’t last. Maybe it was love, maybe it wasn’t… all I know is that it was far too fleeting.

What was your favorite TV show? Hmm, I really got into TV this past year… well more so than normal anyway, I still only turn it on once or twice a week to watch all my shows at one time. I guess I’m going to go with Heroes, I definately raved about that one the most but Jericho, Battlestar Galactica, Supernatural, Dexter and Eureka are all in the running.

What was the best book you read? Wow, I read so much it would be hard to pick just one favorite book. Oh I know, I read the first two books in S.M. Stirling’s “Dies The Fire/Emberverse” trilogy… loved them, fantastic!  Just waiting for the third volume to come out in paperback.

What was your greatest musical discovery of 2006? No specific music (though there were lots of favorites) but I’m going to say an easy way to share music on my blog. I was very happy about that!

What did you want and get? My beloved Sprint PPC-6700 Smartphone… I lusted for this long before it was actually available. It’s one of the few gadgets I own that has lived up to its promise!

What did you want and not get? A Kawasaki KLR-650 dual-sport motorcycle… *sigh*

What was your favorite film this year? It would probably be a toss up between V for Vendetta and Lucky Number Slevin

What did you do on your birthday? Dinner with the kids, Lindsey and I baked chocolate chip muffins (I’m not ready for cakes yet!), worked on a publishing project for a client, watched the New Year’s Eve celebration live from the Space Needle.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Buying a Kawasaki KLR-650 dual-sport motorcycle… *sigh*

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006? Wait, uh… fashion? Is a black t-shirt and jeans a “fashion concept?”

What kept you sane? Sane?

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? You mean “biblically” fancy? Or “Gosh I’d like to meet them” fancy? Hmm, I guess I’m not really into celebrities.

What political issue stirred you the most? The George W. Bush presidency…

Who did you miss? I didn’t hunt any zombies this year… and frankly, I wouldn’t be likely to miss. I’m ready when they come though.

Who was the best new person you met? My Canadian riding pal, Dave and his wife Sandy

Lasagna Pizza, you say? Did you end the affair or did PH get you addicted and then cruelly take away the object of your affection? Is it still possible to get one of these?

Sadly, lasagna pizza was a limited time special offer and now, it’s gone, gone, gone…

Overall, that sounded like a pretty good year. Glad all is well with your son. Your two motorcycle trips sounded like a lot of fun. We all would love to do more trips on our bikes. I did one overnighter to Leadville that involved 5 mountain passes with the HD group and our family vacation, where my husband & I each rode our bikes with our two boys in the car. We all were surprised with how fun that was.

Wishing you many adventures in 2007, Betty :)

Stacie: Look forward to seeing your answers too!

Sarch: Thanks for stopping by, I’m with ya man! Can’t wait for warm weather to return… I’ve gotten out for a couple of short rides so far this winter but I really prefer multi-day trips and the weather is just too unpredictable for me.
