December 15 @ 10:44 pmPower finally came back on this afternoon… and low and behold my broadband was actually working too! I had to trek down to my ex’s to pick up the kids for the weekend. They were still in the dark so they’re happy to have electricity too! First thing my son did was charge his PSP and iPod!
Just driving around to pick up the kids was eye opening. The power grid is really patched together… you’d drive down one block and everything would be fine, the next block over no power. The traffic caused by signals at intersections being out was *insane*! I took advantage of being out to put gas in the car. The station I stopped at was fairly vacant compared to most I came to. Turns out their network was down and they were only taking cash. Hardly anyone had any. Not a problem for me, I always carry cash just in case.
Back at home with the kids, we relaxed, put up the Christmas tree and watched Christmas specials… a pleasant evening after the events yesterday!

We take so much for granted. We don’t realize what we have til it’s gone.
Glad you’re back up & running. Did you have heat, at least?

Rock-n-Roll!! Oh man-o man…, we lost power here too. We ended up sitting in the dark with our big flashlight in hand, listening to the howl of the wind. At one point I thought we were going to be blown away! There was a loud hum like a freight train and creepy howls, I felt much like Dorothy from Wizard of Oz…all I needed was Toto! I did have our cat…but she was too busy freaking out, no Toto loyalty there! LOL
At work yesterday there was flickering of lights & power, and you could hear occasional…”oh *beep*”….coming from the other cubicles, when the flickers were long enough to bring down the computers. On the up side—At least we had Christmas munchies!
Glad you are all safe and back in the light — Have a wonderful & relaxing weekend!

Ours were only out about four hours Thursday night. Have to admit, I was a bit scared. …not of the dark…lol, the wind.
