After trying lots of things we discovered that a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide and a cotton ball clears it up nicely. The peroxide breaks down the wax and the cotton wicks it out. This is especially good as my daughter used to hae constant pain in one of her ears and could barely hear from the build up (narrow ear canals). Every once in a while, the voices in my head will pile furniture up against one of my eardrums, resulting in partial deafness. Poking them with a Q-tip seems to help.
