That pretty much summarizes my current state of mind… Blah! I am lacking motivation to do… well, just about anything. No good reason for it either. Ah well, I have a grab-bag of mini topics I’ve been meaning to catch up on.

I knew I liked Alton Brown, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on the defining reason that made me enjoy watching his shows so much. Now I know… he rides! According to this NY Times article he has a BMW R1200 RT and unfortunately he crashed during his latest project and broke his collarbone. Ouch!
He was working on a mini-series for the Food Network that debuts next month called Feasting on Asphalt… “In a quest to find good eats across the country, Alton Brown embarks on a transient mission to find tasty edibles on the go in a 4-part series about the history of road food (premieres Sat, July 29 at 9 PM ET/PT on Food Network).” And oh yeah, he did it on a bike… up until the accident at least.
I’ll definately be setting the DVR to catch this new show!

This week’s Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt theme is “Sports/Father’s Day.” I struggled with this one because I just don’t have that many sports-related photos, and none with me and the kids. So I’m just going with photos of the kids this week. At least they are *new* photos taken Friday evening! And note, no motorcycles in evidence! See I can take photos of something else after all.
You can’t really tell from this first photo, but Lindsey got her hair cut this week. She’s been growing it out so she could donate it. They cut 10-inches off this week, she looks really cute with shorter hair. I’ll get better pictures of it this weekend.
June 14 @ 4:43 pmThe strangest thing happened today. I normally go into the office on Wednesdays, the rest of the week I work out of my house. I was stopped at a traffic light on my way home when I noticed two dogs wander up to the edge of the street. This was a fairly major surface street, several lanes wide. The first dog trotted across during a gap in the traffic but the other dog was slower and got held up by turning traffic. It just seemed so odd to watch that dog as he calmly watched the traffic, biding his time and waiting for just the right moment to make his journey across the street. All the while his pal was patiently sitting and waiting on the other side. The second one crossed before my light turned green and they both scampered off with what struck me as great purpose. It seemed so… un-doglike to me. Dogs have secrets… I’m sure of it now.

Are you tired of reading about motorcyling yet? Found time to sort through the rest of the photos this evening. Thought I’d do a quick travelogue to go along with. Jim and I met up at 7:30am Saturday morning. There’s a gas station about 50 miles north of my house that we normally meet at if we’re riding a northerly route. Our timing was great, we each pulled up to the light to turn into the station from opposite directions at the same exact moment. A good omen! We always top off our tanks together so we’re in sync for refueling stops later, then we headed to Arlington, WA for breakfast.
June 12 @ 9:55 amI think I have video embedding figured out… let me know if this works!
Update: Google finally approved my upload there, so I’ve switched to Google Video to see if it works better.

I have returned. I have stripped off my armor, damp from rain and sleet, peppered with road grime. “Precious” has been tucked neatly into her stable, pinging softly as she begins cooling off in the evening air. I sink wearily into a soft chair… bottle of cold spring water in hand. Slowly the mental transformation from road hardened samurai to average middle-aged man takes hold.
More photos and perhaps even video later this week…

This week’s Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt theme is “Community.”
I’m choosing to interpret this as a group of people with a shared interest. You can probably see where this is going! My strongest personal affiliation is with other motorcyclists. We are a community with traditions, beliefs, myths, rituals, the whole nine yards. Most people probably lump all of us folks on two wheels together but really, we have tribes among us. I specifically belong to a sect of the Sport Biking clan known as Sport Tourers. We’re the long distance nomadic travelers that ride high performance motorcycles.
June 8 @ 10:03 pmLori is setting up a CD exchange over at Downtown Chick Chat… if that sounds like something you’d be interested in, go visit the girl and get signed up!
