This week’s Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt theme is automobiles(s). It seems an appropriate theme now that summer is in full swing. After all, what’s more American than the traditional summer road trip? I drag the kids off on a trip every summer without fail. I try not to over do it but I think they enjoy it. We pick a destination and head off, with no real schedule to keep or mileage we have to make. I like to stop along the way for photos or to check out an interesting road side attraction. I don’t remember my parents ever taking time for that sort of thing. This particular photo was from a trip down to Northern California 2 or 3 years ago. We camped our way down on an adventure through the Redwood forests of Oregon and California. This is the traditional “driving the car through a tree” photo. My son snapped this one for me.
Next, a hobby-related photo. I can’t remember if I’ve ever posted on the subject but one of my currently neglected hobbies is radio-controlled auto racing. I got into it with a bunch of guys at work and we’d often spend our lunch break out in the parking lot racing around a track setup with orange cones. It doesn’t sound very exciting until you realize that these electric cars can hit 35-40 mph with only a little customization. These aren’t toys at all, I probably have $300 or $400 into this car counting radios and electronics. The sad part is I haven’t done anything with these for a year or two and this is just one of four vehicles I raced. I have a closet full of radio-control vehicles, tools and associated gear gathering dust. I need to drag them out this summer and get them all back in shape!
Finally, a sort of fantasy photo… at least for my daughter. I have a friend we call “Brat” that is obsessed with her car, a Dodge Prowler. She allowed my daughter to sit in the driver seat long enough to snap this photo. My daughter *loves* this car and thinks it would be a great gift for her sixteenth birthday. Dream on kid! Last time I talked to Brat, she was shopping for another car… not to replace this one, but so she wouldn’t have to drive it on days it rained! :dizzy:

Great pics Micheal! I love the car in the tree pic best because when we lived in WA we did a similar trip camping thru the Redwood Forest on the way to CA. I wanted to drive thru the tree, I had since I read about it in a magazine when I was a kid. Do you know what DH said? No way Stace…that’s a tourist trap! ACK! I married my parents!
I played!

I’m sad that they cut thru that tree to “drive” thru it… but it’s still a cool shot.
Awesome last one!

That is an awesome car, the Prowler. So, um, is your friend like available? I have a couple unattached sons.

Oh, I remember doing the driving through the tree thing out in CA when I was little! I don’t think ours had a sign though. But it was 20 years ago and well, you know, the forest just wasn’t quite up to speed on technology back then, lol.

The pics are great.
Brat sounds too funny!
Have a fabulous 4th

Cool pictures. When I was younger, my family did that drive; after driving from North Carolina to Washington state, we came back down the Pacific Coast. I believe we drove through that very tree in our full-size 1981 Chevrolet van. =)
Thanks for stopping by my blog and checking out my photos. =)

Dude, I’m just back to say that upon your suggestion I saw Superman Returns at the local Imax. Okay flick. The sound was uproarious in Imax. The 3D effects weren’t bad either. The movie was just a bit slow and more of a chick flick than I expected.

I love road trips too. I have always wanted to do the “big trees” trip.
