This week’s Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt theme is “Community.”
I’m choosing to interpret this as a group of people with a shared interest. You can probably see where this is going! My strongest personal affiliation is with other motorcyclists. We are a community with traditions, beliefs, myths, rituals, the whole nine yards. Most people probably lump all of us folks on two wheels together but really, we have tribes among us. I specifically belong to a sect of the Sport Biking clan known as Sport Tourers. We’re the long distance nomadic travelers that ride high performance motorcycles.
We sometimes feud and different branches of the family don’t always get along. One thing you might notice is that we tend to wave at each other. There’s a lot of politics behind the scenes for some riders that determine who gets waved at or which waves get responded to. I’m not so particular, if you’re going the other way on two wheels and I’m not busy doing something you’ll get a wave from me regardless of your ride or what you’re wearing. I like that about motorcycling.
It’s nice when you’re touring to be part of the community. You seldom feel alone when you roll into a gas station or rest stop and find other motorcyclists. With rare exceptions, we like to talk to each other and share the ride. A good example happened on my recent trip to California. Headed down I pulled into a little diner for breakfast the second day. While I was dismounting and taking off gear another rider pulled in. We chatted for a few minutes in the parking lot and wound up having breakfast together. What would have been a quick meal and a dash back to the road turned into one of the highlights of my trip. That’s community for you…
This week’s theme is especially appropriate because I’m on the road again Saturday morning. Just a short weekend trip around the Cascades with an overnight stay in Winthrop, WA. I’ll check in on other Hunters when I get back Sunday. Hope you have a great weekend!

I do very much enjoy your interpretations of ALL the themes for these Saturday Photo Hunts… because MOST of them lead back to this! LOL! My hubby is a biker (of sorts) also — and I have a fine appreciation for the biking “community” — and I think it’s an excellent interpretation! GREAT job!

Loved your ‘community’ photo’s and also learning much more than I even knew about ‘clans’ and the like. Very interesting!

You’re right, motorcyclists are a community and there are tribes within that communityu, how about the Pagans and the Hell’s Angels
And about the politics of hand waving, don’t expect it from a Harley rider if you are riding a Honda.
Great shots and narrative.

I figure motorcycle riders to be a close knit group since they have a way of pushing through legislation (riding helmetless may be soon legal in Michigan).
By the way, of the four songs I heard, I liked the Sparks song best. Seems like there are a few musical groups named Sparks. Or have been throughout the years.

Defenitely a community that too! Good choice. I liked what you wrote about it. That you always do write a little about it.
