The theme for this weeks Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt is ‘Flowers.’ This photo really was the subject of a hunt! As I rode along today I kept my eyes peeled for an opportunity to pose my bike with flowers. I finally came across this bush along the road and doubled back to capture this shot for you. Unfortunately, while I can post this from California, I won’t be able to visit your photos until I return to Seattle early next week.

This photo summarizes the day fairly well. Riding through the mountain passes between CA and OR was soooo cold. I mean shivering in my gear cold. Not enough layers for sure. And I was lucky. I had intended to cut inland and enter CA a different route. Instead I followed the coast. Another group that went my planned route hit icey conditions. No injuries but sounds like it was exciting in a bad way. Tomorrow is just local riding and the weather will determine what exactly happens. Still having fun and that is the main thing!

Spent the day following the Oregon coastline. I’m currently holed up in Coos Bay debating whether or not I have the energy to go out for dinner. Only made a few stops today, skipped lunch to get back on schedule. Beautiful ride though! Tomorrow, on to California!

Crossed into Oregon via the Lewis & Clark bridge this morning. From here I took Hwy30 to the coast and then Hwy101 south.
May 18 @ 9:27 amI’m behind schedule already! But, it is a vacation after all so I guess that’s just fine. The bike is loaded, I’m about to gear up and head out. I’ll make one stop heading out of town to top off the tank and air up the tires, then it’s south to Coos Bay, Oregon. I’ll try to moblog during a rest stop or two on the way down. I’ll be back at the bunker on Tuesday, have a great weekend… I certainly intend to!

Starting to get ready for departure tomorrow. Gave my baby a bath and installed her new decals. These are prototypes, still looking for a good place to have better ones made. Using this to test moblogging as I plan to provide updates as I go!

I thought I was tired *before* the field trip… try keeping up with a pack of 4th graders all day. Good grief, and I’m riding to California on Thursday? I better figure out how to squeeze a few hours of sleep in there somewhere!
Tillicum Village was fantastic! We had a great time though our schedule hardly allowed us to see much of anything as we rushed from place to place. I may have to take the kids back there for the public program sometime.
The highlight of the day was of course the salmon lunch, all of the kids were looking forward to it. I think my favorite part was the after-lunch program in the Long House. They put on about a 30-45min program of narration and dance that covers the traditions and legends of the PNW tribes. I found it fascinating, if hard to photograph!
I’d write more however, I may have mentioned this in passing, I’m exausted. Again. Still?
May 16 @ 5:58 amI don’t *do* early… I’m only up because my precious daughter spent the night here and we’re going on a field trip today. Have to be at her school at 8am to catch the bus. We’re off to visit Tillicum Village on Blake Island. Photos later… ![]()
