The Day of Men

Today a friend and I celebrate a ritual we call simply, “Man Day.” My shooting partner’s wife is out of town giving him the rare freedom to indulge in a day of manly pursuits.

We begin the day with Swedish pancakes at IHOP at 9am. From there we journey forth to the holy shooting range to exercise our pistol-craft and worship at the altar of the almighty .45, blessed be it’s caliber. Rumor has it that we will then sojourn to the south in search of ponies, or at least horse racing at Emerald Downs. I’m not really into horse racing myself, but should this occur I will observe through the view finder of a camera and find the beauty in it.

Our mission in the world complete, we will retreat to my domicile known in manly circles as “The Bunker.” There we will char beef over a dancing flame, explore the alchemic properties of rum and coke in combination, and observe what you call “films” involving buxom women, fast cars, automatic weapons and explosions… or some combination thereof.

On days like today, it is good to be a man. *grunt*

I think the true manly thing would be to shoot your own grub, THEN barbecue it in a pit or something.

Darn, I was going to play your “Saturday Share” whilst I was typing this and some other blogging comments. Well, don’t think I heard last week’s yet. I’ll get that instead.

And I have an answer to a question you asked earlier. If you try to look up a word in the on-line version of the Merriam Webster dictionary, you get that @#$%$#@! Netflix pop-up. And it gets through the blocking software too!

Speaking of Netflix, I tried to browse their old sci fi collection and couldn’t. All I kept seeing were more pitches for their “free trial.” See why I hate them?
