March 29 @ 8:25 amStumbled into this over at Pam’s…
1. Do you blog to make friends with people you will eventually meet in real life? I certainly wouldn’t mind meeting some of the people I’ve encountered through blogging, some of you are pretty intriguing folk! I have met and ridden with people I’ve encountered through online motorcycling communities. In fact I’ll be riding down to northern California in May for a meet with a bunch of riders from around the western states. So if you setup a meet, and it’s within a few days ride of Seattle… well, I just might show up…
2. Do you blog for yourself as a sanity-seeking form of online diary that is really neat cause it can link to all kinds of other things? I originally started blogging to keep friends and family updated on my life. I stay fairly busy and am bad about keeping in touch. I still do that but really, I enjoy writing and sharing my thoughts, photography, etc.
3. Do you blog to discover people with whom you share opinions about a topic? That was certainly part of starting up a motorcycle-themed blog. You’ll see more riding-related posts now that the season is kicking off up here in the PNW. Apart from that, generally I’m just sharing who I am with whoever happens to stop by.
4. Do you blog to attract readers? And, do you have an expectation of what sort of readers you have? I definately like having readers. I don’t have huge expectations about them, but a comment now and then is nice…
I do try to write on a variety of topics to give people “food for thought” and a reason to give feedback. How successful I am is for you to determine.
5. Would you still blog if nobody read your blog? Hmmm, probably not. The interaction with other people is part of the attraction for me. It’s not so much that I crave attention for myself, in fact I’m happy for other people to be in the spotlight. Rather, this is one of my main outlets for socializing. Online, I can really be myself and people don’t have expectations about me. In “real life” I sometimes feel most of the people I know either judge me on appearances or cultivate my friendship because I am useful to them. I don’t think they really know me they way you will if you continue visiting.
6. Do you blog to distinguish yourself .. because you think blogging is cool and you think it makes you cool(er)? How could I possibly be cooler than I already am?! No, I think the bottom line is that I blog to share life.
7. What do you think of on-line friends vs real life friends? Should there be a difference? I think you share yourself with your friends. They are the people you help and are helped by when life throws a curveball. Is online any different than offline in that regard? I don’t think so…
8. Have you ever Googled yourself? You bet! Though there are several other people out their with my name. I’m still on the first page of results that come up though!
